Grandma’s Sugar Cookies

 

 

1-¼ cups butter

2 cups brown sugar (firmly packed)

1-teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons cold water

3 eggs

½ teaspoon baking powder

1-teaspoon vanilla extract

4 cups flour

 

 

Cream butter and sugar together.  Dissolve baking soda in water.  Combine creamed mixture, soda water, eggs, baking powder, vanilla and flour; mix well.  Chill dough in refrigerator several hours or overnight.  Roll out dough on floured cloth and cut cookies out with round cookie cutter.  Place on greased baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees F. for 7 minutes or until golden brown.  Makes 4-5 dozen.
